Are you a new parent or preparing to welcome a new child into your life?  Are you facing decisions about end-of-life for a loved one or yourself?  Are you struggling after loss or change? Are you seeking support to care for yourself as you show up for others as a parent, teacher, or leader?

I believe we are all layered and complex people.  I strive to hold a brave space for clients to come as they are, explore thoughts, feelings and experiences and seek greater insight. Through our work together, clients arrive at self-compassion and understanding, identify goals and actions, and feel empowered and prepared to take next steps.

Who do I work with?

I work with adults 18+, and I am fiercely passionate about working with all people including individuals who identify as LGBTQI+, those from diverse backgrounds, all faiths and spiritual practices and anyone searching for a therapeutic environment where they will be welcome exactly as they are.

What informs my practice?

I draw on mindfulness, somatic therapy, CBT, and trauma informed practice in sessions.

In addition, I draw on 20 years of previous work experiences in non-profit administration and leadership, palliative care and grief and loss. I also have advanced training in Perinatal Mental Health and trauma-informed yoga practices.

I am deeply rooted in our community and carry a passion for social justice motivated by my own experiences.  My time as a teacher and teacher coach helped shape my understanding of the ways our well-being and mental health are influenced by the systems in which we reside. Addressing how such systems impact our lives—whether in the form of gender or racialized oppression, economic or cultural injustice, or discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity—is an essential part of healing and empowerment.  I hold a holistic vision of health that includes attention to the many dimensions of wellness including our physical, mental, social, environmental, occupational and spiritual well-being.

Who I Am

Originally from Colorado, I have called Atlanta home for 14 years.  Before becoming a psychotherapist, I was a teacher and teacher coach, and then a curriculum designer.  Now, in addition to providing therapy for clients, I lead participant risk, policy and case management functions for a national non-profit.  I am a parent of three children under 10.  When I’m not with clients I am usually spending time with my family, reading, gardening, or otherwise moving my body outdoors.

If you think we would be a good fit, please reach out to me at KatieB@EastAtlantaCounseling.com, or book services now. I see clients in our Decatur for in-person therapy as well as telehealth.
